In recent months, Ekiti has witnessed a remarkable movement—a surge of energy and enthusiasm encapsulated in the initiative ‘Walk for BAO.’ Spearheaded by the eloquent Congressman Bimbo Daramola, this initiative is more than a mere stroll through the streets; 4 is a clarion call for wellness, community engagement, and political renewal, all under the banner of focusing on Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the Governor of Ekiti.
At its core, Walk for BAO promotes a healthier lifestyle, drawing supporters of the Governor into a collective space where physical exercise blends seamlessly with purpose.
The initiative aims to energize not just the physical well-being of the participants but also their spirits as loyalists rally to celebrate the Governor’s achievements while contemplating his vision for a second term.
Congressman Daramola, known for his articulate oratory, has a unique ability to captivate an audience. His past experiences as a member of the House of Representatives have equipped him with an understanding of the public discourse that resonates deeply with the people.
By organizing the Walk for BAO, he has created a platform that serves a dual purpose: promoting physical health and allowing him, as a compassionate listener, to engage with the electorate on a personal level.
Every walk culminates in more than just an awareness campaign; it becomes a festivity of community spirit. Participants not only gain the benefits of moderation and exercise but are also treated to a memorable day filled with camaraderie and football matches.
As attendees take part in these activities, they receive generous provisions like a 10 kg bag of rice, other food items, and vegetable oil.
This thoughtful approach to ‘stomach infrastructure’ builds a genuine connection with participants, transforming the initiative into an impactful social event that feeds both body and community.
My first personal encounter with the Walk for BAO took place on June 21, 2025, in Efon Alaaye. This experience truly illuminated the depth and significance of this remarkable initiative.
The event was animated with laughter, movement, and a palpable sense of belonging. Beyond witnessing individuals benefiting from the food provisions, I observed heartfelt prayers and expressions of gratitude directed towards the Governor and the organizing team.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, showcasing how this movement is genuinely uplifting the spirits of its participants.
What truly distinguishes the Walk for BAO is its growing momentum. Each iteration of the event draws more participants, including a diverse array of supporters crossing party lines, and has solidified BAO’s appeal far and wide. What started as a health initiative is transitioning into a grassroots movement—a palpable embodiment of “BAOism.”
This movement has evolved into a kind of political tourism, drawing thousands to different towns for the walks. Participants are eager to host the events in their communities, generating economic activity and promoting local businesses as they book hotels and dine in restaurants. It is a phenomenon that underlines the interconnectedness of politics and community engagement, breathing life into the economy of host towns.
It is critical for us to recognize that Walk for BAO is more than just about exercise; it is a strategic initiative that fortifies BAO’s influence and expands his supporter base. It functions as a conduit for public discourse, a means of engagement, and a method for building strong community ties.
As Congress Bimbo Daramola continues to champion this initiative, it is apparent that the Walk for BAO transcends traditional political gatherings. It invites participants into a vibrant collective experience that amalgamates fitness with local culture, generating enthusiasm and support for BAO’s vision.
Kudos to Congressman Daramola for this innovative approach, and may the spirit of BAOism continue to flourish and inspire change. God bless BAO and this burgeoning movement!
