Ekiti Anglican Synod Urges Godly Parenting, Electoral Integrity, National Security Reforms
The Ekiti Anglican Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has called for renewed commitment to Godly parenting, national integrity, and peaceful democratic processes, as it concluded the Third Session of its Twentieth Synod alongside its 60th anniversary celebrations.
The Synod, held from April 10 to 12, 2026, at the Ekiti Diocesan Camp Ground (Ile Adura), brought together over 700 participants including clergy, laity, and church leaders under the leadership of the Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Andrew Olusola Ajayi.
It featured sermons, Bible studies, and discussions led by prominent Anglican bishops from across Nigeria.
In a communiqué signed by the Chairman, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatubosun, and the Secretary, The Ven. Emmanuel Feranmi Ojo, the Synod emphasized its theme, “Children Are the Heritage of God” (Psalm 127:3), describing it as timely in the face of increasing moral challenges affecting young people.
Participants stressed that raising Godly children remains both a spiritual and societal duty, highlighting discipline, intentional Christian teaching, and mentorship as key approaches.
On national issues, the Synod commended the Federal Government’s anti-corruption efforts but urged greater transparency and fairness, stressing the need for proper reinvestment of funds saved from fuel subsidy removal to ease the economic burden on citizens.
The Synod also expressed concern over insecurity, particularly violent attacks and kidnappings, urging the government to strengthen its response to criminal activities.
It welcomed international collaboration in enhancing Nigeria’s security capacity and offered prayers for peace in conflict-affected regions globally.
Addressing Nigeria’s electoral process, the Synod underscored the importance of electronic transmission of results in ensuring credible elections ahead of the 2027 general polls and called on anti-corruption agencies to tackle vote-buying stressing the need for electoral bodies and security agencies to act impartially.
On the upcoming Ekiti State governorship election in June 2026, the Synod appealed for peaceful conduct and a level playing field for all political actors, encouraging citizens to participate responsibly.
The church further urged government at all levels to prioritize job creation, promote industrialization, and shift the economy from consumption to production, stressing that tackling unemployment would significantly improve both security and economic stability.
In its resolutions, the Synod advised citizens to consider lawful means of self-defence in light of prevailing security challenges, while also calling on the President to intensify efforts against banditry, especially in Northern Nigeria.
Concluding, the Synod called on Nigerians to remain patriotic, uphold moral values, and work collectively towards national unity and development.
It also encouraged continuous prayers for the country, expressing hope for divine intervention and lasting peace.
