The Chairman of Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Hon. Bamidele Omoleye, has called on teachers and parents to ensure necessary disciplinary measures are taken in both homes and schools to nip the menace of child bullying in the bud.

Omoleye made the call while addressing teachers and students in Ido-Ekiti, the council headquarters, on the occasion of the 2025 Children’s Day celebration.

He also tasked parents to note that bullying is an offense against the nation’s law.

Omoleye charged parents, society, and governments at all levels to work towards enhancing a brighter future for Nigerian children by making them speak the truth at all times.

According to him, it is pertinent for parents to make society habitable for all by standing up for a better Nigeria and building a generation that does not encourage social vices.

“A child that is thoroughly groomed by both parents and school will live a life devoid of bullying fellow children because such a child would know the consequences of bullying. It is believed that parents must have made the child understand that bullying attracts heavy sanctions,” he said.

He warned against acts like bad company, smoking, drugs, and disobeying school rules and regulations, which he added could truncate their prospects in life.

“For a child to stand tall among peers, he or she must be obedient and thoroughly guided by parents. A child who is willing to stand up must be a well-groomed child, because it is not enough to only stand up, but to stand tall in all facets of life, to be useful to themselves, their family, and society at large.”

The council boss congratulated children in Ido/Osi, Ekiti state, and Nigeria at large, tasking them to embrace the opportunity to speak up and build a bullying-free society. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Stand up, Speak up; building a bullying-free generation.”

The occasion had in attendance, Political office holders, Head of Local government administration Mr Sanya Gbenga, Directors, Parents and other relevant stakeholders.
