My Becoming ‘Ejemu’ of Iyin Ekiti Was By Divine Calling -TKO Aluko

The quiet town of Iyin Ekiti is currently a beehive of traditional activities as Dr. Temitope Olaiya Kolawole Aluko is crowned as the Ejemu of Iyin Ekiti.

Dr. Aluko popularly known as TKO by business and political associates has since observed the cultural rites and rituals attached to the title and will officially change his regalia while all the paraphenalias attached will be presented to him.

The Ibedoyin quarters of Iyin Ekiti has been agog with many activities since the Chief went into culturation hibernation while guests and well wishers were treated to a 7 days continous feast.

The astute and foremost politician and business mogul gave an insight into the journey that saw him step into the traditional seat of his ancestors.

” I was not expecting to be called to come and wear this shoe of my forefathers. I was called by the Aluko family head and he said God has revealed that i am the next Ejemu of Iyin and that i should go and prepare.

“I was shocked a bit because i am not the oldest person in our clan but all the family agreed that i should be crowned and since all the family consented to it i had no choice than to answer the divine call”

Speaking on behalf of the Aluko family, the head of the family Elder Sunday Oladotun maintained that the “Ejemu” chieftain is an age long title that is dated as far back as the history of the Ibedoyin and so the rites are in accordance with the culture and norms of the clan.

” Our street was formerly Imogun before we transited to this present site where the name was changed to Ibedoyin Quarters with other sub quarters making up Ibedoyin but this title is entitled to our family the Aluko”

Elder Aluko explained that, while ascention to the title is not determined by age but the “Ejemu” must be somebody who has been found worthy in character, good deeds and must be well respected in the society.

” The position is a very importand and is backed up by traditions so the Ejemu must be very accomodating that is one of the qualities he must possess and Dr. Tope is the head that the crown really fits.

He has been our family symbol for a very long time so this title is also to compliment his personality on behalf of the family and i pray God will in his infinite mercy continue to back but for us in Aluko family we are very excited” he concluded.

Meanwhile the Traditional ruler of Iyin Ekiti His Royal Majesty Oba Adeniyi Ajakaye while confirming the coronation through a courtesy visit by some palace High Chiefs of the town congratualted the new Chief at his residence in Ibedoyin Ekiti.

The Chiefs led by Asolo and Abalusi delivered the Kabiyesi congratulatory message to the newly installed Chief.
Oba Adeniyi Ajakaye said the Dr. Tope Aluko is a good son of the soil and for the family to support is a testimony of his goods deeds the family and his environment, he prayed that development will continue to come into the town as he steps into the position of his ancestors.
