The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti state has received a massive boost ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial elections in Ekiti as a former All Nigerian Peoples Party, (ANPP) Chieftain and former Deputy governorship candidate in 2022, Otunba Stephen Abiodun Ojo led over 3000 of his followers to join the ruling party in the state.
The event which took place at Ilupeju Ekiti in Oye local government area of the state, today , Thursday, witnessed political big wigs, political gladiators and party faithfuls of the All Nigerians Peoples Party who defected to the ruling party.
Former Chairman of the party and Elder statesman, High Chief Jide Awe while addressing the crowd assured the decampees of equal opportunities in the party and also thanked them for joining the APC citing it as evidence that the good works of Governor Abayomi Oyebanji is attracting weighty and even members of the oppositions in the state.
“Otunba Stephen Abiodun Ojo is a golden name and with what we see here today, the acceptance is massive and it is a testament to the fact that he has a good reputation in his community and such personality is a good addition to our great party”
The Publicity Secretary of the APC, Comrade Segun Dipe who officially welcomes Otunba Abiodun and his followers into the party, conveyed the goodwill of National party chairman Alhaji Ganduje, the state chairman, Hon. Sola Elesin and other stakeholders of the party.
He maintained that the All Progressives Congress is a party for all and their is level playing ground for all either new or old members.
“On behalf of the National party chairman, I welcome you and your followers to this great party. I want to assure you that you have come to the right party and the welfarism of you and your followers remains our top priority.
The progressives party is your home and you can be rest assured our party is on course for the repositioning of the state.”
Comrade Segun told newsmen that the party is a home for all and party members are treated as one.
Otunba Stephen Abiodun while addressing journalists thanked the governor of Ekiti state, Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his developmental projects across the state stating that the giants strides has left indelible marks in the history of Ekiti.
He aslo declared that his love for development and human oriented projects of the Governor led him to make the move in joining the All Progressives party.
“Its like coming home and one cannot but join a progressive train to contribute my quota to the development of the party and the state.
I am happy to join the train of his Excellency and i want to assure the party of my commitment, loyalty and love for thr BAO second term agenda.
I have come with my over 3000 followers to join the APC and i can boastly announce that the party is on course to win the next guber election with a landslide victory” he concluded.
Others who attended the event include Honorable representing Oye constituency in the house of Assembly ID Aluta, Mrs kemi Olaleye and a former SDP deputy gubernatorial candidate Honorable Ladi Owolabi.
