Heritagenews reports that the Rector of Crown Polytechnic, Odo, Ado Ekiti, Mr. Kolawole Ajisola, has advised both returning and new students to shun any act that could present the institution in a bad light, but to focus on their studies as the school resumes for the 2021/2022 academic session.
Ajisola said this on Tuesday at a forum organized by the Directorate of Students Affairs of the Polytechnic.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Stephen Ajagbe, and made available to newsmen, the Rector said Crown Polytechnic has maintained its high ranking among Polytechnics in Nigeria, and of recent been rated the best private Polytechnic.
“Out of about 102 Polytechnics in Nigeria, we take 32nd position, and among private Polytechnics, we are number one. Why are we first? it’s because of our academic excellence.
We have categories of students that are serious with their studies and staff that are dedicated to their duties.
“The primary purpose of coming to Crown Polytechnic is to study and receive your certificate. Please, take your studies and your lectures attendant seriously.
There is a new rule we would apply if you don’t have a class attendance of 75% you won’t be allowed to sit for examinations.
“Take your assignments and tests seriously. If you don’t meet up with the graduation criteria, Crown Polytechnic will not graduate you.”
Ajiola said the Polytechnic fees is the least compared to others. He said the management has made a policy that would make the payment of school fees easier for all students by paying in two tranches.
“Despite being the least in terms of school fees, we have made it easier for you to pay twice; 50% payment in the first semester and the remaining 50% can be paid in the second semester,” he said.
He added that being a private Polytechnic, the institution does not receive grants from Government but relies solely on the money paid by students for the smooth-running of the school.
He noted that the Polytechnic has taken steps on the recent harassment of students by some hoodlums who came into the town and carted away some of their belongings.
The Rector said the Polytechnic in collaboration with the host community leaders is not leaving a stone unturned to unravel those behind the incident and ensure such never happened again.
Ajisola emphasized that the Polytechnic has zero-tolerance for cultism and other anti-social behaviors on campus, adding that the authorities would not hesitate to discipline any erring student accordingly.
He encouraged them to make the best use of the opportunity given to them by their parents to develop themselves and acquire the required knowledge and skills that would make them stand out in the larger society.
The Rector called on all students of the institution who are yet to resume for the new session to do so in earnest to maintain their studentship.
He said all students are currently undergoing screening to and he encouraged those who are yet to do it to go ahead and present themselves for the exercise.
He noted that Crown Polytechnic is known for standard and provision of quality education and, will never compromise such.
In his remarks, Director of Students Affairs, Mr. Alagbe Olugbemiga welcomed the students back on campus and encouraged them to always relate with his office whenever they have challenges or complaints that needed to be addressed.
Present at the event are principal officers, Deans of Schools, Directors and Head of Departments and students.
The institution has continued to maintain an uninterrupted academic calendar despite the global outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic that has been affecting almost all sectors in Nigeria including education, forcing many higher institutions to experience delays in completing their last academic year.
