Charity Lens: Offering Helping Hands Amid Fuel Subsidy Removal Effects in Nigeria

By Moyinoluwa Ogundowole

The removal of fuel subsidies has had a significant effect on the public’s overall well-being in a variety of ways.

Economic difficulties have arisen, with transportation expenses surging and subsequently causing higher prices of goods and services, resulting in an increased cost of living for the people.

However, amidst these trying times, it’s important to remember what defines the human species ‘Humanity’. The quality that drives individuals to show kindness, understanding, and tolerance towards one another, irrespective of differences in culture, race, ethnicity, or beliefs.

We must put on the garment of humanity in these trying times, letting our light shine before others, being a brother’s keeper, and having a sense of responsibility towards our fellow human beings knowing that many people are now struggling with economic hardships and uncertainty about tomorrow.

People often say, ‘Charity begins at home.’ Let’s take this wisdom to heart and prioritize extending utmost kindness and support to our immediate family, friends, neighbors, and close circle. Let’s proactively ensure their well-being and not wait for them to ask for help before offering our assistance and generosity.

Practice boundless kindness; contribute to charitable organizations, surprise fellow passengers with paid transportation fares, participate in fundraising campaigns for supporting vulnerable communities and share your warm smiles to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others as you go about your daily activities.

In summary, as human beings, transcending our national identity as Nigerians, let us uphold our shared humanity and unite in displaying acts of kindness that shine brightly amidst the shadows brought about by the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
