ASUU Commends Gov Oyebanji For Increasing EKSU Subvention
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti has commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the recent increase in the subvention to the University.
The Union in a statement by its Chairman, Dr. Sola Afolayan affirmed that such step was an attestation to the fact that the Governor is indeed committed to the standard of tertiary education in the state.
According to Afolayan, the shortage in the resources of the university has over the years hampered effective teaching, research and learning.
The ASUU chairman also noted that such development was responsible for the irregularities in the payment of salaries thus reducing the morale of workers to give their best on the job.
He noted that the new development is a relief as the university would be able to attend to necessary things needed to enhance development of the university.
He however stressed that ASUU will continue to, like Oliver Twist, agitate for repeat performance of such a laudable gesture from the Governor, adding that “the wage bill of the institution is so much that the robust support of the government will always be coveted…. Supposing his predecessors in office had contributed their own instalments of financial responsibilities to the institution, the journey to the desired world class status would not have been as cumbersome. We expect more positive moves from him as a worthy alumnus of the university”.
Dr. Afolayan promised the readiness of the Union to Cooperate with government of Oyebanji to record more success in the education sector.
