Why There Might Not Be MBBS At EKSU Without Fayemi-Olanipekun

Ekiti state University, Ado Ekiti (EKSU), will forever be grateful to the immediate past Governor of Ekiti state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, as there wouldn’t have been medicine as an academic programme in the state University had Fayemi not waded in, at the right, and done the needful.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor, Eddy Olanipekun who made the declaration on Wednesday during the 27th Convocation ceremony, for graduands in Ordinary National Diploma (OND), First Degree programmes and the presentation of prizes to deserving graduands who have been found worthy in character and in learning. He noted that the outstanding contributions of the former Governor in this regard is worth mentioning.

His words: “We are eternally grateful to the immediate past Governor of Ekiti state, His Excellency Dr. Kayode Fayemi who provided the needed support and logistics in this regard to ensure.this University can tum MBBS”.

The VC stated that the total number of the graduands the University produced included 74 diploma and certificate holders, with 1 distinction, 28 with upper credit passes, and 45 in lower credit While a total of 5,682 granduands bagged first degree and 79 got distinctions. He added that the varsitt recorded only 1 pass.

Olanipekun disclosed further that various programmes of the University have been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

” I am happy to report that seventy (86.4%) out of our eighty-one regular academic programmes have full accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC), while eight (9.88%) programmes have interim accreditation, and only one (1.23%) has a denial. The remaining two are those which are yet ne ready for accreditation.”

“All our professional programmes, namely Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering have full accreditation by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN); MBBS by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN); and LLB by the Council of Legal Education of Nigeria.”

Olanipekun said the university also made success in the area of ICT infrastructure, “Our Directorate of ICT also has the capacity to handle the following, among others: Standard Studio for recording lectures Distance learning Campus wide area internet coverage.

“Ekiti State University deployed a robust e-learning platform via its home-grown portal, in response to the educational challenges in higher institutions occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. “Taking advantage of our enterprise mailing system with Google, we have unlimited access to Google meet to deliver online Video lectures to our students in real time.

“The LMS platform is studded with many rich features which including IP restrictions (geofencing) and integrated e-examination.Other services offered through our portal include, but not limited to,: online admission and registration exercises, Computer-based tests and examinations, and production of customized identity cards.

On the Independent Power Plant project, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanipekun stated, that, he is delighted to report that EKSU is working on it, in collaboration with the Ekiti State Government to bring it to reality

The VC however aknowedge the effectiveness of the newly appointment Pro-Chancellor, and Chairman of Council of the university, the Professor emeritus, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN  Prof. Akin Oyebode’s since resumption, saying he has been able to come up with many developmental initiatives that would catapult the university to the dreamed land of glory.

He thanked the the visitor to the university, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji for his efforts and supports for the University which incidentally his alma mater.

The highpoints of the ceremony was when the VC announced that all graduands should proceed to their various faculties to obtain thier certificate as the graduating students echoed shout of gbosa! for the Vice Chancellor, Prof Olanipekun.

Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Akin Oyebode vowed that the university Council under his leadership will work with the university management to raise the bar of Excellence in the university and register it as an adorable brand of global reckoning.
