The remains of late Madam Lydia Bosede Okebiorun have been laid to rest at her residence on Ilamoye Street in Igede Ekiti, with family, friends, and well-wishers paying glowing tributes to her remarkable life of faith, resilience, and devotion to family.
The burial rites began on Friday, March 20, 2026, with a Service of Songs held at the Okebiorun family house, where a large gathering celebrated the life and legacy of the centenarian matriarch.
Activities continued on Saturday at Ilamoye Baptist Church, Igede Ekiti, which witnessed a significant turnout for the funeral and thanksgiving service.
Delivering the sermon, the presiding minister, Rev. Owolabi Ayodele, who drew his message from Revelation 10:6 and Luke 11:32, urged the congregation to live a Christ-centred life, stressing the inevitability of death and the promise of eternal rest for those who die in Christ.
Reflecting on the biblical lesson of repentance, he encouraged attendees to remain steadfast in faith and devotion to God.
Rev. Ayodele described the late Madam Okebiorun as a devout Christian and a woman deeply committed to the service of God and humanity.
According to him, she was a supportive wife and a nurturing mother who placed high value on education and moral upbringing.
“Madam Lydia was a supportive wife who worked tirelessly to give her children quality education and sound home training. I encourage everyone to emulate her exemplary life,” he said.
He added that her long life was a testament to God’s grace and a legacy worthy of gratitude and reflection.
In an emotional tribute, her son, Chief Sola Okebiorun, described his late mother as a virtuous and selfless woman who consistently prioritised the well-being of her children.
“I will miss my mother deeply. She was full of life and an embodiment of good character. She sacrificed so much to ensure we succeeded,” he said.
“She gave everything she had for our comfort and success. While her passing is painful, I am grateful she lived a fulfilled life,” he added.
The final interment at the family compound was marked by emotional scenes, as loved ones gathered to bid farewell to the revered matriarch.
Late Madam Lydia Bosede Okebiorun was born in 1916 into the family of the late Chief Ogunsua and was married to the late Mr. Simeon Ojo Okebiorun. Despite challenges, she remained steadfast in her faith and unwavering in her commitment to her family.
She passed on at the age of 110, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, sacrifice, and enduring impact on her family and community.
