An atmosphere of relief swept across parts of Kwara State on Monday following the release of seven construction workers who were abducted by armed men in Owa Onire community, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The freed workers include two engineers attached to the Kwara State Ministry of Works, whose disappearance last week had raised anxiety among government officials, residents, and stakeholders involved in ongoing construction projects in the area.
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, who confirmed the development, attributed the successful rescue to coordinated operations by security agencies, supported by the state government.
He said the outcome reflected the resolve of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration to confront insecurity and ensure the safety of workers and residents across the state.
Olododo described the period of captivity as deeply distressing, particularly for the families of the victims, expressing gratitude to God and the security operatives for the safe return of the workers. He also acknowledged the prayers and moral support extended by members of the public during the ordeal.
Residents of Owa Onire welcomed the release with visible relief, urging security agencies to maintain a strong presence in the community to forestall future incidents, especially with construction activities still ongoing.
The Kwara State Government has continued to strengthen collaboration with security formations as part of broader efforts to curb criminal activities and reinforce public confidence in safety across the state.
