Nigerian writer teaches Igbo language in Brazil ..Tell Igbo Stories, Folklores In Brazilian Communities And Colleges

A Nigerian story teller and writer, Sunday Ikechukwu Nkeechi has reached the top of his career as an  Igbo story teller in Brazil , he has become the first Nigerian Igbo writer and story teller to teach and tell stories in igbo language to Brazilian students in schools and colleges.

A native of Nkalagu, Ebonyi state, Southeast Nigeria,  Sunday Ikechukwu writes and tells Igbo stories and folklores to Brazilian students in schools and colleges, he has involved students in Brazil to learning more about the Igbo tradition through telling stories. His activities as a story teller and writer has also convinced the literary community in Brazil.

Sunny, as he is often called, received the Nigerian journalist, artist and writer, Adeyinka Olaiya at the CENTRO CULTURAL DE CIDADE , TIRADENTES where he partners a collective literary community with the state education department.

This Igbo man spoke of the inspiration and support he got from his mother back home in the village when he decided to promote the Igbo stories and tradition around the world, and he also mentioned the exceptionalities he acquired from reading the books written by the late Chinua Achebe, one of Nigeria’s greatest writer of all times.

Specifically, Sunny said that the masterpiece  ‘ Things fall apart ‘ by the late Nigerian Igbo writer inspired him when he started inserting the original igbo tradition in his stories.

A pride to the Igbo tradition in Brazil, Sunny responded to Uthman Dan Bakare, a journalistic assistance of the HeritageNews team in Brazil , that he has published over six books since he arrived Brazil.

His books has attained  a mark of over One million copies sold , the book ULOMMA launched in the year 2006 is considered  a masterpiece in the literary industry in Brazil , it has enriched  the knowledge of the Brazilian students who are interested in learning more about Africa and the African people.

A graduate of Literature from the University , UNICID , Sunny also graduated from the University , BRAZ CUBAS , where he studied Pedagogy , he is a trained educationist and a story teller who attends to all levels of students and researchers , a professional of high integrity.

Also present at the interview, the Brazilian Art and Culture promoter,  Mrs Rosangela Mello, who commended the writer Sunday Ikechukwu Nkeechi, saying he is a phenomenon who has systematically inserted  the Igbo story lines in to the studies of the Brazilian people.

She disclosed that Brazilians thought that Nigeria is having just the Yoruba culture and tradition, but can now know of the diversified culture of the Nigerian people through Sunny’s books and story lines.

Mrs Rosangela added that Brazilians are enjoying the stories , she also said that Sunny is a blessing to Nigeria and Brazil , she foresees a greater future , she said that Sunny is very significant to the people of Saopaulo and to the municipal of Tiradentes where he lives with his Brazilian wife and 3 kids.

Also the coordinator and general supervisor of the Cultural Centre in Cidade Tiradentes , Mr Carlos Alberto Ferreira Pinto , said that the municipal, Tiradentes is having thousands of African families living and plying their trades.

He said that Sunny is a blessing to the community, he has brought the unknown igbo story lines to the community, he said that the community is proud of him and will expect more of such from all Áfrican immigrants in Brazil.

Sunday Ikechukwu Nkeechi who is also a member of the Brazilian academy of story tellers has advised the Nigerian government to bring back history into the school’s curriculum in Nigeria

He also said that stories emanates from history, he revealed the reasons why he decided to use the telling of stories as a means of teaching the Brazilian people more about Africa.

Specifically, he said what he expected to see actually was far from what he saw when he arrived Brazil about 23 years ago.

“I am launching my new book tilted ‘Meu amigo Sol’ on the 30th  of July, it is surely going to be another master piece. I already have six books to my credit in Brazil, Ulomma, Contos da Lua e da Beleza Perdida, Às Aventuras de Torty, O Natal de  Nkem and Amores em África . The books were published by Paulina Publishers in Saopaulo.

The illustrators were Mauricio Veneza, Denise Nascimento, Maurício Negro . I am happy to be an Igbo man, a Nigérian and an African “ he said
