The candidate of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, in the 2022 Ekiti gubernatorial election, Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, has canvassed that Nigeria needs passionate leaders who have the interest of the masses at heart.
Elebute-Halle who was reacting to an interview by journalists in ado–Ekiti,Ekiti State, over the nation’s quest for a new leader following the 2023 general elections suggested that God should pick the right leader, irrespective of religious, ethnic and political affiliations.
She remarked that as people crave for change in government and governance, there is need to pray to God to choose a good leader for the country. “A leader that is passionate about Nigeria and Nigerians”. Adding that Nigerian leaders relish in acquiring wealth they do not need while others especially the downtrodden live and die in penury.
The former Director-General, Action Democratic Party, Presidential Campaign Council,PCC, urged Nigerians to be steadfast, hopeful and undaunted in the midst of the current national woes. She is optimistic that the country will get through all its travails soon and becomes a robust economy, where Nigerians can sleep with their two eyes closed, where they can have valued education, a Nigeria where integrity and value are the hallmarks and where Nigerians love Nigeria.
“You see the fate of the nation now, I will tell you it is really pathetic because I don’t know how I can describe our economy right now. Everybody will ask, even our children that can barely talk now, they know the hardship that is going on right now. And each time I look I say, how did we get here? But can we actually call it the act of God? You know that we have a failed economy now, mix with scarcity of naira and scarcity of fuel.”
The first female gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the ADP in Ekiti State, advocated a leadership which agenda or blue-print will be in the best interest of the people. “Any president or any leader that wants to lead this country, that does not have any blue print, and you can hold them, he is a scam”.
The civil engineer/politician underscored the importance of continuity in governance where succeeding regimes do not abandon the projects and other people-oriented programmes initiated by their predecessors to embark on new ones that may be tantamount to waste of resources.
