Late Olaboyede: Appreciation for Donations

The family of Olaboyede Odekunle hereby expresses our deepest appreciation for the love and affection received by our now deceased son from friends and acquaintances located both far and near, in response to his pleas for donations upon his awareness he had a serious health issue!

Boyede, who died of liver cancer Wednesday, 21 December 2022 and buried the following day at a Muslim cemetery in Ibadan, was a gifted broadcaster and an enthusiastic giver during his short term alive. He celebrated his 37th birthday barely two months before death came beckoning.

The magnitude of love and affection showered on Boyede while alive and struggling with the killer-ailment, specifically in terms of donations running to several millions of naira, was unprecedented, and was a bit surprising, given the age and relatively short professional life of the beneficiary.

While Boyede is no more physically, his legacy of love shall endure forever, and shall remain the only testimony that a soul could indeed be less endowed in physical (liquid) cash, but stupendously rich in social capital.

Boyede, from and owing to the donations from across the world – Canada, Nigeria, Dubai (UAE), America and elsewhere, was able to undergo/offset sophisticated – but minimally invasive – surgeries of the quite expensive kind in notable private health facilities in the country, especially Lagos.

Efforts to fly him out to hospitals overseas were fruitless, as none of the hospitals contacted showed appreciable promptness to effect the attainment. He died at the UCH, Ibadan, where he had been for comprehensive treatments on two separate occasions, before the final turn. It is not sure if Boyede could on his own have been able to raise and commit nearly N20 million into fighting a cancerous malaise without such awesome support!

This is restating Boyede died, not for the inability to secure needed cash for care, but because such has been ordained of God in whom we take solace that the death was meant to graduate our dear son to a higher, loftier and better-deserved glory!

The family once again appreciates every donation from individuals and organisations, and pray that no one who who showed Boyede loving concerns while alive and parted with such staggering quantum of cash shall live to experience what he went through which ultimately claimed his life.

We shall all live to the fullest of our times to claim God’s awesome glories, individually and collectively. Aamin.

Signed: Boyede family
