Why We Are Rejecting Seun Fakuade’s Return as Commissioner Nominee – APC Ward Chairmen

A major disagreement has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oye Local Government Area as ward chairmen and key stakeholders have openly opposed the renomination of Mr. Seun Fakuade as Commissioner-designate, insisting that his return would be detrimental to party cohesion at the grassroots.

In a petition addressed to the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, the twelve ward chairmen outlined in clear terms why they are rejecting Fakuade’s comeback, accusing him of arrogance, aloofness, and total detachment from party structures throughout his previous tenure as Commissioner.

According to the chairmen, Fakuade showed “no sense of accountability or loyalty” to the party that produced him, alleging that he repeatedly ignored APC activities, declined to participate in mobilisation efforts, and distanced himself from ward leaders.

The petition, dated December 2 and jointly signed by all ward chairmen and prominent party elders, stated that Mr. Fakuade failed to join the ward-to-ward mobilisation during Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s recent affirmation tour, a move they described as a deliberate show of disregard for the party.

They also accused him of failing to make moral or financial contributions to strengthen the APC in Oye, noting that his attitude created “unnecessary tension, resentment and discouragement among hardworking members.”

One segment of the petition reads:“Mr. Seun Fakuade does not relate with anyone. He claims he was not appointed by the party and therefore owes no accountability to members. He neither picks calls nor returns them; he blocks lines at the slightest provocation.”

The chairmen stressed that their opposition is not personal, but rooted in what they described as a long-standing pattern of Fakuade’s disengagement from the party. Returning him to the cabinet, they argued, would “further demoralise the grassroots” and undermine unity in Oye.

They appealed to Governor Oyebanji to consider a more committed and accessible nominee who would work with the party leadership and strengthen his administration’s support base in the LGA.

Despite the dispute, the ward chairmen reaffirmed their loyalty to the Oyebanji administration and pledged continued support for the governor’s second-term goals.

The petition was endorsed by all twelve ward chairmen, including Chief Alonge, Hon. Adebisi Jide, Mr. Aderibigbe J., and the Oye APC Chairman, Hon. Ogunsakin Samuel.
