The Reps Member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency of Benue State, Hon. Samuel Odagboyi Godday came on board with a definite purpose in mind, targeted at improving the quality of livelihood of his people as much as possible.
Hitherto, our people have been denied the opportunity of enjoying development-based leadership; our representatives in government either come home to intimidate their opponents, celebrate their errand boys with strong drinks or seek for another election.
The people of Agatu in particular have been left out of the global community with no major government intervention in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) services; concerned about this unfortunate situation, the Reps Member engaged relevant government agencies, including the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) as well their mother ministry, Federal Ministry of Communications.
Interestingly, the people’s Honourable was able to attract three out of the six approved interventions for North Central region under the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) program of the NCC for the year 2021 to Agatu Local Government Area, namely;
✓ Community Resource Centres (CRC)
This project is targeted at providing internet connection for communities with little or no access to ICT centres.
Under this project, forty (40) desktop computers were provided, connected to the internet and powered with solar energy at Okpagabi community in Agatu Local Government Area.
✓ School Knowledge Centres (SKC)
This project is aimed at providing a platform for accessing online/offline educational resources and the adoption of ICT as a learning platform in public secondary schools.
Also completed and installed at Agbaduma Community Secondary School, Aila in Agatu Local Government Area, with another set of over forty (40) desktop computers, connected to the internet and powered with solar energy as well.
✓ E-Health project
This project is designed to use Information Communication Technologies (ICT) to improve access to healthcare, raise the quality and reduce cost of health care provision in rural communities.
Again, the project is completed and been put to use at General Hospital, Obagaji, headquarters of Agatu Local Government Area; forty (40) desktop computers were provided, connected to the internet and powered with solar energy as usual.
These interventions became necessary to encourage the use of computer based technologies by the younger generation in Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, particularly those in the rural areas.
Indeed, the 21st century existence is dependent on ICT, making it a major requirements for the educational survival of today’s youth. Disadvantaged in this regard are those in the rural areas where access to basic educational facilities remain a major challenge; a gap the Honourable Member tries to fill for his people.
As some of my brothers from Benue South Senatorial District used to say, “capacity no be guy name”, the current HOR Member has not only demonstrated commitment to serve but shown high-level leadership capacity in the course of developing our constituency.
Leadership is not all about contesting or winning elections, but hinged on the capacity and readiness to deliver, the wherewithal to attract and lobby meaningful development to your people and the grace to deliberately sacrifice for your people against all odds.
Headed towards the coming elections, the people of Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency have continued to recount the numerous developmental strides of Hon. Godday Samuel in the last three years; issues are being brought to the table, realities and fact checks have taken the day.
Politics is beyond unnecessary propaganda, our people have become wiser and more sensitive; they see through the character content of those who want to lead, they x-ray the capacity, behavioural patterns and antecedents of candidates and obviously, Hon. Godday has continued to stand extraordinarily tall amongst the rest.
