The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye, on Monday joined the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, at the Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti, for the swearing-in of five newly appointed judges of the Ekiti State High Court.
Describing the ceremony as a significant milestone in the strengthening of the state’s judicial system, the Speaker said the appointment of the new judges would further reinforce public confidence in the administration of justice in Ekiti State.
According to him, a functional democracy is anchored on strong institutions, with the judiciary playing a pivotal role in ensuring fairness, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
Rt. Hon. Aribasoye noted that the oath of office taken by the newly sworn-in judges was not a mere formality, but a solemn pledge to uphold justice without fear or favour.
He quoted American statesman, Alexander Hamilton, who in The Federalist Papers wrote, “The complete independence of the courts of justice is peculiarly essential in a limited Constitution.”
“The strengthening of our judiciary is fundamental to deepening democracy in Ekiti State. The legislature will continue to support initiatives that enhance the efficiency, integrity and independence of the courts,” the Speaker stated.
He therefore congratulated the newly appointed judges and wished them wisdom, courage and steadfastness in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
