The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Kayode James, a longtime aide and official driver, describing his passing as a painful loss not only to his office but to the entire Assembly family.

In an emotional tribute made available to journalists on Wednesday, the Speaker said the late Kayode James was more than a driver, noting that he was a dependable confidant, trusted adviser and a committed public servant whose dedication spanned decades.

According to Aribasoye, his relationship with the late James dated back to 1999, when Kayode served as one of the drivers attached to the pioneer Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, a role that underscored his consistency, loyalty and long-standing service to the institution.

“Kayode was not just a colleague; he was family,” the Speaker said. “He was dedicated, resourceful and hardworking. Over the years, he proved himself not only as a fearless and steadfast driver, but also as a trusted adviser whose counsel I relied on in moments both big and small.”

The Speaker recalled that Kayode served as the head of his pilot team, earning a reputation for professionalism, courage and reliability. He said the late aide carried out his duties with minimal supervision, adding that his presence became symbolic of the Speaker’s office.

“When Kayode appeared, everyone knew the Speaker was present,” Aribasoye stated. “Yet, he never sought attention or recognition. He worked quietly, ensuring that people and responsibilities were handled with care and diligence.”

Aribasoye also highlighted the late Kayode’s joy and gratitude following his recent promotions, noting that the deceased benefited from ongoing welfare reforms within the Assembly, including timely promotions and improved staff conditions.

“He once came to me with prayers and words of appreciation after receiving his second promotion during my tenure. Those prayers, born out of gratitude and hope, remain unforgettable,” the Speaker said.

Describing Kayode’s death as an immeasurable loss, the Speaker said his passing serves as a reminder of the fragility of life, while urging his family and colleagues to take solace in the legacy of service and integrity he left behind.

“To his family and all who knew him, may you find comfort in the memories of his quiet strength, humility, prayers and unwavering commitment to duty,” Aribasoye added.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and assured the family of the Ekiti State House of Assembly’s support during the period of mourning.

“Kayode transcended his role. His name became a symbol of trust and dedication. His legacy will endure in the halls of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him,” the Speaker said.
