#princeissacfayose Setting the Record Straight:Dear Isaac Fayose,
Thank you for acknowledging the efforts of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, in positioning Ekiti State as a prime tourism destination.
I watched your video and appreciate the opportunity to address the three points you raised, which, regrettably, contain inaccuracies regarding the steady and consistent progress being made by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in our State, a state which birthed you.
Your assertion that tourism cannot flourish without improved road infrastructure is absolutely on point. Smooth, well-maintained roads are indeed crucial for both residents and visitors.
However, your claim that the roads to Ekiti’s tourism sites are not good is simply untrue and overlooks the significant strides made by Governor Oyebanji’s administration.
In just two years, Governor Oyebanji has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to road development, surpassing the achievements of previous administrations.
He has established a superb internal road network, specifically prioritizing and rehabilitating all major roads leading to our tourism attractions, ensuring they are now free of potholes.
Consider these tangible improvements:
The Iwaraja – Efon Alaye – Ipole-Iloro – Waterfall road is now smooth and accessible.
The road from Ipole-Iloro to Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort and Conference Centre is completely rehabilitated and pothole-free.
The stretch from Ikogosi-Ekiti to Ado-Ekiti has also undergone significant rehabilitation.
The Ado – Ikere – Ise – Emure Tourism Corridor, which serves attractions like the Pyramid and Forest Conservation and Princess Adedewe Square, is now free of potholes.
Similarly, the Iyin – Igede – Ado road, providing access to Osun Igede, Abanijorin Rock of Wonders, and Fajuyi Park in Ado, is in excellent condition.
These strategic investments clearly demonstrate Governor Oyebanji’s deep understanding of the fundamental amenities required for tourism to truly flourish.
He has not only diligently rehabilitated numerous roads across Ekiti, but also created a Ring Road—a deliberate move to decongest and avoid traffic chaos in the state capital, Ado Ekiti.
While the Ekiti State Government has excelled in constructing, rehabilitating, and maintaining several state roads more than any of its predecessors within two years, we acknowledge challenges with the condition of three major Federal Government roads: Ita-Ore – Erio-Aramoko – Igede, Omuo-Ikole, and Ikare-Irun-Ado.
These critical arteries have unfortunately been in a parlous state, despite being fully awarded by the Federal Government for rehabilitation.
It’s important to note that a standing policy strictly prohibits the State Government from interfering with Federal Government roads.
Therefore, while the Governor continues in his vigorous efforts on state-controlled roads, we, as patriotic Ekiti sons and daughters, should join in advocating and appealing to the Federal Government to accelerate the rehabilitation of these three vital federal roads that traverse our state.
Even upon that there are alternative roads that are good for instance when you are coming from Lagos use Iwaraja – Efon – Ikogosi – Ilawe – Ado..or Ilesa Exoress- Igbara Oke – Ado . Or Akure- Ikere- Ado are all good roads.
Your assertion that there is no security in Ekiti State is equally baseless. Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has initiated and re-engineered the security infrastructure and mechanisms in Ekiti, making it one of the most secured states in Nigeria.
This enhanced security environment is crucial for both residents and tourists, fostering a sense of safety and confidence that is vital for economic growth and tourism development.
You must nite that recently over 2500 Ifa Worshippers from all over the world conveyed on Ekiti for four days and no single security breach .
Also , over 359 golfers were in Ado Ekiti for 4 days and all went back to their places of abide unscathed .
Finally, your claim that there are no investors and a lack of youth and community development is directly contradicted by the facts on the ground.
Due to the Governor’s proactive stance in concessioning the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort and Conference Centre, that singular act has led to the employment of over 200 youths from the support zone communities, pulling them from the “concrete jungle of unemployment.”
This is a powerful testament to the Governor’s commitment to youth empowerment and community development.
Furthermore, over 50 Ekiti indigenes were trained by NIHOTOUR as tour guides, significantly enhancing our local capacity to showcase our attractions.
Consequently, investors are now actively scrambling to Ekiti to explore opportunities at our various sites.
Just last week a band of investors from Brazil was in Ekiti to explore the tourism business sector of Ekiti State.
The positive steps taken by Governor Oyebanji have addressed all your implicit concerns regarding roads, security, youth empowerment, and community development, directly attracting the investment and growth you claim are absent.
We are confident that with these foundational elements firmly in place—world-class road infrastructure, enhanced security, and robust youth and community development initiatives—tourism in Ekiti State is poised to fly beyond our imaginations.
Perhaps now, Mr. Fayose, it’s time for you to come home and consider planting a resort in Ado Ekiti!
Okun oo.
Sincerely,
Wale Ojo-Lanre Esq.
Director General, Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism..
