The erstwhile permanent secretary of the ministry of environment in Ekiti state Babatunde Alokan has been arraigned before a magistrate court in Ado Ekiti on allegations of stealing government vehicles.
Alokan who retired last year from the ministry of environment was alleged to have absconded with a vehicle belonging to the government.
According to the prosecutor Mr. Oriyomi Akinwale, the defendant was arrested and detained after he failed to produce the vehicle following which he was arraigned on thursday 17th April 2025 despite the fact that he retired from the civil service last year.
Chief magistrate Abayomi Adeosun of court 1 therefore granted the defendant the bail of 1 million naira, one surety with a landed property with C of O in Ado Ekiti vicinity and must be a top civil servant with evidence of tax clearance of one year.
The retired permanent secretary was however unable to meet his bail conditions on the 17th of April and was remanded in custody throughout the Easter celebrations.
The case has been adjourned till 9th of May 2025 by the magistrate court for hearing.
