Falegan Congratulates NUJ on 70th Anniversary

The Founder of Opeyemi David Falegan Foundation and one of the leading non governmental charity organization, Hon Opeyemi David Falegan, congratulates the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on its 70th anniversary, acknowledging its resilience and contributions to democracy, good governance, and national development.

He expressed his congratulation message through his Media Aide, Comrade Adewumi Francis in a press statement in Ado Ekiti on Saturday.

NUJ was founded on March 15, 1955, the NUJ has been at the forefront of press freedom, ethical journalism, and media welfare. Over the decades, Nigerian journalists have shaped public discourse, held leaders accountable, and upheld the need for truth, fairness, and accuracy in media reportage.

The Founder commended the NUJ’s immeasurable contributions toward national development.

He urged for improved welfare for journalists and continuous learning.

According to Falegan ,with the new trends in information and communication technology (ICT), journalists must continue to learn, unlearn, and relearn to remain relevant and effective,” he advised.

He acknowledged journalists as society’s watchdogs, the he stressed the importance of ethical standards and self-regulation to curb quackery, misinformation, and sensationalism.

Falegan wishes the NUJ leadership and members continued success in their noble profession.
