Tourism Uptrend: Hikers Excited After Sighting Relics Of World War II Plane Atop Okelapa In Ekiti

Excitement ensued as tourism enthusiasts, researchers, historians, and government officials sighted relics of a World War II aircraft, that crash-landed 82 years ago atop Okelapa, in Ikogosi Ekiti.

This was as Ekiti Government in her effort to preserve history, on Saturday launched a pre-hike of Okelapa as Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, Director-General of Ekiti Bureau of Tourism Development led government officials, tourism enthusiasts, historians, researchers amidst others to the site of Africa’s first plane crash on Okelapa, Ikogosi Ekiti, the site where a World War II aircraft crash-landed in 1942.

The hiking exercise initiated by the Bureau of Tourism Development and Agbo-Veterinary and Environmental Consult, and Discover Ekiti Tourism Club, and officially sponsored by ALLUVIUM saw excited hikers jubilating after sighting the relics from the crashed plane atop Okelapa.

The activities of Ekiti Bureau of Tourism Development underscore the efforts of Oyebanji led government to explore tourism potentials in Ekiti while creating a formidable niche among states as a destination of choice for local and inbound tourists alike.

In the meantime, Okelapa site of Africa’s first plane crash in Ikogosi has become one of the array of tourist attraction sites in Ekiti.

Spotlighting Okelapa, site of Africa’s first plane crash, the area qualifies as a hotspot for historical preservation and ecotourism, as relics from the plane crash lie on Okelapa amidst green vegetation.
