Following the postponement of the 2021 National Youth Games to be staged in Ilorin, Kwara state, Ekiti State representatives will today (Wednesday) depart Ado Ekiti to join athletes from other states of the federation.
A member of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) who is joining the Team Ekiti for the national assigment, Olawale Omoyeni reports that the athletes have started arriving the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium as early as 8 o’clock this morning while departure is expected to around 9am.
Chairman of Ekiti State Sports Council, Mrs Olushola Osetoba who is the leader of Ekiti state contingent as well as the coaches, staff and athletes were full of life and excitement for the privilege to represent Ekiti state at a national sporting tournament .
Mrs Osetoba thanked governor Kayode Fayemi for supporting Team Ekiti financially and morally prior to the National Youth Games with an assurance that the Ekiti state young sports ambassadors would not disappoint the sports loving people of the state.
The National Youth Games which ought to have started earlier in the week was postponed by the organizers due to logistics reasons and all participating states are expected to arrive today and tomorrow , though some states have already landed in Ilorin prior to the shift in the kickoff date.
Ekiti State will be represented in 10.games including athletics, boxing, gymnastics,beach volleyball,tennis, judo,weightlifting, cricket and chess.
The 10 day National Youth Games which officially begins today and ends on October 20 is meant for athletes who are 15 years old and below.
Over 50 athletes and about 20 officials are going to represent Ekiti state at the National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara state.
