A prominent social club known as Sparkling Egalitarian, Club in Ikere Ekiti has given out education scholarships to students of some selected secondary schools in Ikere-Ekiti.
The club’s scholarship programme which is an annual event took place on Monday, 9th December, 2024 at Eleyo high school, Ikere-Ekiti.
The education scholarships which was aimed to give support to students who are doing excellent well in their field of studies sees each student going away with a token amount of thirty thousand naira.
In his remarks, the Lord Mayor of the club, Dr. Abiodun Ogundare stated that the club was not only making history but translating into reality, the dream conceived by the club few years ago when it was decided that it was time for the club to be awarding scholarships to secondary school students in Ikere-Ekiti.
“Today is a very important day for us as a club, because we are not only making history but translating into reality, the dream conceived by our club a few years ago when we decided it is time for us to be awarding scholarships to secondary school students in Ikere-Ekiti.
“Therefore our club stands of the threshold of history today, we are reminded of the notable words of Winston Churchill, former PM of United Kingdom that says, ‘Everyone can recognize history when it happens. Everyone can recognize history after it has happened; but only the wise man knows at the moment what is vital and permanent, what is lasting and memorable’.
” I have no doubt in me that today’s event will not only be memorable to you, but I am certain that it will motivate you for tomorrow’s achievements. You are the pioneer recipients of this award, and we see many more students joining you in the coming year”
He furthered that education is important in the world today because of its manifold impacts on our society, from raising the quality of life, to creating conditions conducive to the development of talented individuals capable of changing the society.
Mr Ogundare maintained that the importance of education in society lies in the fact that it creates opportunities for acquiring knowledge and skills that are literally changing the world.
“The world has made remarkable progress over the past century. However the challenges that confront us as humans have not become easier. Many problems remained unresolved and become increasingly complex and multi-faceted. Health, technology, climate change and commerce advancement have dominated many national and international discourse in recent times.
“This development underscores the importance of education in world because of its manifold impacts on our society, from raising the quality of life, to creating conditions conducive to the development of talented individuals capable of changing the society.
“The importance of education lies in the fact that it creates opportunities for acquiring knowledge and skills that are literally changing the world”
The President of the club added that the importance of education to human being cannot be overemphasized and that it is a right that should be accorded to everyone.
Speaking on behalf of other school Principals whose students were beneficiaries of the scholarship programme, Mrs Ibitoye Funmilayo, the Principal of Eleyo High school, commended Sparkling Egalitarian Club for coming up with such a wonderful idea to give out education financial support to students that excel in their various fields.
She noted that such a good step would boost the morale of other students to work harder.
“The step you have taken to give financial support to students who have excelled in their various steps is a laudable one. It will encourage them to be more serious with their studies” he stated.
One of the beneficiaries of the school scheme, Azeez Lekan from Irepodun High school expressed his gratitude over the opportunity and encouragement given to him, promising to keep up his excellent performance.
“I wish to express my appreciation to the organizers of this scholarships award. They have done well. I will continue to try my best to excel in my academic career” He said.
High schools that benefitted from this scholarships were, African church comprehensive high school, Irepodun high school, Eleyo high school, Annunciation school, Amoye Grammar school, and Ajolagun high school.
The beneficiaries are, Kayode Tobiloba, Ajayi Ayotomiwa, Owoeye Odunayo, Ibitoye Precious, Ariyo Enoch, and Adeoye Demilade.
The list of the beneficiaries also include, Azeez Lekan, Adegboye Funmilayo, Abah Victor, Akindele Kehinde, Fatukasi Bosede, Akeredolu Tosin, Ojo Ayomiposi, Adeyemi David, Igwe Joshua, Asamo Oluwatimilehin, Ojo Nifemi, Alao Pemisire, Oluwafemi Ayodeji, Mewase Oluwatumise, Falajiki Ayomide, Cladius Ayobami, Gbenga Diekolayomi.
Others are, Afolayan Busayo, Aderibigbe Taofikat, Victor Favour, Popoola Michael, Femi Abere, Abologborin Kolawole, Akinola Taiwo, Ojo Mercy, Bamidele Grace, Adewale Taiwo, Adefemi Samuel and Balogun Miracle.
Others who responded on behalf of the students, Gbenga Diekolayomi Favour Annunciation School, Ikere, Abologborin Kolawole Amoye Grammar School, Ikere and Asamo Oluwatimileyin prayed God to continue to bless the association.
“Our prayers is that God should continue to bless the organizers of this program and grant the enablements to continue to do more exploit”. The beneficiaries added.
