Some Important Things You Need to Know About Me- Mary Oso
I have undergone different training courses in journalism and broadcasting, some were on scholarship and some were self – sponsored. Thanks to Radio Nigeria, BBC , my parents and my husband. This helped me become a pro in media .
In 2009 I had a professional Diploma Degree in PR /Advert . I took a step further and got inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in 2016 . I also did some online courses .This helped me become a pro in PR & branding .
In 2021 , I decided to venture into the world of advertising & marketing communications. Two weeks ago ,I ended my stage 3 ARCON professional exam . It’s a very hectic journey but very rewarding . This helped me become a pro in Advertising & Marketing Communications.
Last week , I attended the 2023 National Advertising Conference in Abuja . My first official outing with the bigwigs in the Advertising industry in Nigeria.
Reminiscing about some PR and branding stunts I successfully pulled during my University days and early days in Radio Nigeria , I must give glory to God and hail myself. Then ,I worked as a freelancer with a lead strategic team that won elections for two different State Governors . Later , I managed top super celebrities’ brands productively . Those were the days when I haven’t fully gone through all the professional training courses I listed . Now imagine when I have acquired all…dem go take. 🤣That’s on a lighter note .
Having said all that, the purpose of attending the 2023 NAC was to simply market Ekiti and ,specifically , our community engagement activities at the Bureau of Community Communications which I did successfully to the glory of God and huge support of Mr Sellable himself , Governor Biodun Oyebanji. In few months , the purpose shall bear fruits . I thank my Ekiti brothers who instantly picked interest in my accidental idea pitch .😃
The theme of the conference “Marketing Communications as an enabler of National Transformation”, was timely . My interaction with the grassroots so far has made me realize that in Nigeria, effective grassroots engagement by every tier of government will play a pivotal role in addressing most ,if not all, of our national issues.
For any national transformation to happen, there must be a conversation, engagement, village meetings which must be initiated right from the grassroots.
Here in Ekiti State , Governor Oyebanji seems to have seen the future and very much prepared hence the creation of Office of Community Communications in the first place . The office bridges communications gap between the government and the people. It connects the grassroots with the government. The Federal Government seems to have also followed this initiative with the appointment of SSA Community Engagement in each Geopolitical zone . I learnt some other State Governments are taking a cue too . Governor Oyebanji is a pace setter when it comes to connecting with the grassroots.
Meanwhile, it was a 3 – day conference which commenced with a Fireside Chat . Lolu Akinwunmi , Group CEO of Prima Garnet Africa led the panel of Speakers.
The conference speakers’ list ; Gov Sanwo Olu , Taiwo Oyedele , Chairman Presidential Fiscal Policy & Tax Reforms Committee, Steve BabaEko , CEO of X3M Group , Chioma Afe , Femi Adelusi ,President of MIPAN and a host of other great speakers .
I ran into my good brother, Raheem Akingbolu who also joined me in marketing Ekiti .
By the way , Bureau of Community Communications is very much open for partnership from corporate ,international and other organizations wishing to make impact at the grassroots or wishing to run programs or initiatives that are community- driven.
