Should A Pastor Have Body Guards?

There seems to be a current trend that Pastors have now become celebrities or some high profile individuals whose safety is at risk.

This has compelled many Churches to employ bodyguards for their Pastors. Members are always convinced by Pastors to put in all their best incomes and produce since God will look after them for the rest of their days on earth.

Every Sunday, Pastors are seen dressed in their regular suits and well-polished shoes behind their pulpits to perform their duty as a caregiver.

They are regularly raising funds, preaching praying, and give counseling services to their members and in return are been paid in exchange for their services rendered to their members.

The major source of income for Pastors is generated from their members. Though a few Pastors already have their source of income before coming into ministry, the majority of them obtain their worth from the work they do as ministers.

In an article written by bestnews.com on 6TH September 2018, Dr. Lawrence Tetteh who is the founder and president of the Worldwide Miracle outreach justified that there was a need for Pastors to keep bodyguards for their own safety.

One funny thing is that the Pastor has bodyguards protecting him while the members use the stickers bought from the Pastor to protect themselves, family work, and their properties.

The irony is that the Pastor is heavily fortified by his security team at home, church, and any other place that he attends while members depend on anointing oil or some spiritually assumed products made by the Pastor.

In the majority of Churches, money is known as ‘the seed’ and members are always given the assurance that if they plant (give) it at Church, they will receive a double portion in time to come.

They are given several quotations which some include Malachi 3:10 and the like. The trend in which some Pastors are enrolling bodyguards for their personal protection seems to me as a fashing to display power and importance to some extent. It also seems as a way to inform your competitors in the ministry about your worth on the religious and economic ladder.

I am of the view that these Pastors do to have faith in God and so they are either scared that someone evil will take their life or they rather trust in the protection of man than God and so their protection is guaranteed by another human being while they tell members to trust in God.

So Should Pastors have bodyguards?
