Mr. Speaker’s diary!
During yesterday’s plenary session on June 27, 2023, the house discussed several important matters.
These included the governor’s request to appoint Commissioners and obtain approval to appoint 10 Special Advisers. The screening process for the Commissioner nominees is scheduled to begin next week.
Additionally, the house selected members for two standing committees, namely the Rules & Business committee and the Media & Public Affairs committee.
Furthermore, an ad hoc committee on legislative agenda was established with the aim of collaborating with the executive branch to develop a Legislative-Executive Agenda for the state.
In other proceedings, the Ekiti Electricity Power Sector bill for 2023 underwent its first reading, while the Ekiti Sports Commission bill for 2023 successfully passed its second reading.
The honorable members engaged in a thorough debate on the latter bill before referring it to the Committee on Youth and Sport Development for further consideration. The plenary sitting was adjourned to Monday, 3rd of July, 2023.
Following the plenary session, I had the privilege of engaging with various stakeholders. This included discussions with two prominent Obas from my Constituency, namely my own Kabiyesi, the Owa Ajigbotoluwa 1 of Odo Ayedun Ekiti, and the Oba Alajowa of Ijowa Ekiti.
Their presence and insights were greatly appreciated. Additionally, representatives from the EKSU Alumni were present to express their support and solidarity as I assumed the role of Speaker of the State.
Furthermore, I had the privilege of receiving two distinguished guests: the current Auditor General of Ekiti State, Mr. Victor Adeuya, and the former Auditor General for Local Government, Mr. Kayode Alfred Fasakin.
Their visit was particularly meaningful to me as I had previously served as a staff in the Auditor General’s office. This shared professional background allowed for a deeper understanding and insightful discussions on matters pertaining to auditing and financial accountability in the state.
Thank you!
Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye.
