Relief As FUOYE VC Rolls Out Subsidized Transport System For Students, Staff

Relief came the way of both students and staff members of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), last Monday as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, fulfilled his promise to roll out a subsidized transport system that would reduce the cost of transportation.

A statement made available to newsmen at the weekend by the S.A media to the VC, Wole Balogun, in Ado-Ekiti, said a 56-seater bus was on Monday, March 1, provided by the Management for prompt implementation of the subsidized Transport system. Concrete efforts have also been made to repair other vehicles so that they could be made available to accommodate more students and staff members within the shortest possible time.

The subsidized Transport is under a Committee headed by FUOYE’s Head, Maintenance Unit; Mr. Ademola Ojo, a Deputy Director.

He is being assisted by other members of the Committee among whom are Dr. Odoh, Ikenna, Representatives of NASU, SSANU, Bursary, Maintenance, The Chief Driver and Secretary from the Registrar’s office, Mr. Oluwatade Faith.

Mr. Ojo said he has briefed the VC on the decisions that were taken by the Committee on the operations of the buses, adding that:” Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays have been scheduled for operations for now, while more days will be included as more buses are made available.”

Speaking further about the operations of the transport system, an Assistant Registrar at the office of the VC, Muyiwa Ajayi, said: “You will recall that the VC promised to look into subsidizing Staff Transportation. Following the meeting of the Staff Transport Committee, the under listed decisions have been considered: That the 56 capacity TATA bus be placed on use pending the repair of the others; That the vehicle will convey staffers from Ado to Oye via ifaki.

Continuing, he said: “This arrangement is yet subject to changes due from students’ use of same vehicle when required; That the transport fare from Ado to Oye is N200, while ifaki to Oye is N100; That the vehicle will be scheduled to travel from the following locations and time in Ado: A. Christ School, 7:30am, B. Friendlies Hotel Adebayo, 7:40am; Passengers to alight at University junction, Oye, University Gate phase 1, Central Admin, phase 2 and FSS junction phase 3; Departure to Ado, 4; 30pm from central admin and University gate; Staff in Ikole to have patience while their concerns is being looked into; Customized tickets will be produced for staff direct purchase from source as from next week.

However direct cash payment be made to the chief Driver before entering the bus for now. Be assured of accountability; Conditions for staff transportation include ID card, CoVid 19 compliance; Your full cooperation will be highly appreciated.
