Reflections on the Ekiti State House of Assembly Retreat; Mr. Speaker’s Diary! (With Photos)
From September 13th to 15th, 2024, members of the 7th Ekiti State House of Assembly gathered at the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort for a legislative retreat. Themed “Legislating and Oversight in a Challenging Time,” this retreat provided an opportunity to reflect on our roles, sharpen our skills, and prepare for the new legislative year.
The retreat featured insightful presentations that addressed critical aspects of governance and lawmaking in today’s complex environment:
Legislative Oversight in a Troubled Time (Presented by Dr. Mike Omilusi): This presentation emphasized the need for strong legislative oversight, especially during periods of socio-economic challenges.
Financial Management and Welfare of Members of parliament (Presented by Mr. Akintunde Oyebode, Commissioner for Finance): A session on balancing personal welfare with financial discipline, particularly important in times of economic uncertainty.
Constituent Financial Pressure and Legislative Responsibilities (Presented by Dr. Akeem Bello – BOUESTI): A critical discussion on managing the high expectations of constituents while maintaining focus on legislative duties.
We also express our deep appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his inspirational charge to the Assembly while declaring the retreat open through his representative. His words reinforced the importance of legislative-executive synergy in ensuring good governance for the benefit of the people.
A special note of gratitude goes to Mr. John Olajide and Cavista Holdings for their generous support in making this retreat possible. Continuous capacity building remains key to delivering effective governance, and I am proud that our Assembly is committed to this.
As we step into the new legislative year, we do so with renewed focus and determination to serve Ekiti State and her people. The retreat has further equipped us to legislate responsibly, perform our oversight duties diligently, and continue fostering good governance for the benefit of all.
Thank you!
Rt. Hon. Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye
Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly
