Reactions As Bandits Attack Church, Kidnap Worshippers
Some bandits were reported to have at kidnapped at least 40 worshippers during service at Bege Baptist Church, Madala on Buruku Baringi road in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday.
The chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Kaduna State chapter, Rev. John Hayab, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Kaduna on Monday.
According to Hayab, the attack took place during a Sunday service at around 9:30 am, while the worshippers were in attendance.
“While the worshippers were attending the Sunday service, they heard gunshots from very close to the Church. The Church was attacked and 40 of the worshippers were taken away by the gunmen,” he explained.
Hayab also disclosed that 15 of the abducted worshippers managed to escape, while 25 others remained in captivity.
According to Hayab, 15 of the kidnapped persons returned somehow along the way, leaving 25 still in captivity with no communication from their abductors.
He also mentioned that efforts were underway to establish contact with the kidnappers regarding the remaining 25 victims.
The religious leader expressed hope that the kidnappers will be contacted and urged them to release the remaining 25 hostages to their loved ones.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the state government or the police regarding the incident.
As of the time of writing this report, our correspondent had not received a response from the state police command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, despite attempts to reach him through phone and text messages.
