The lawmaker representing Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency II in the Ekiti State House of Assembly and former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu, has expressed deep sympathy with the Alare of Are Ekiti, Oba Boluwade Adebiyi, and residents of the town following the rainstorm that caused significant damage to the monarch’s palace and several homes.
Jamiu, in a statement made available to journalists, described the incident as unfortunate and heartbreaking, noting that the extent of destruction has left many families in distress. He, however, reassured the affected community that they are not alone in this challenging period.
“I am shocked and saddened by the devastating rainstorm that destroyed part of the palace and several houses in Are Ekiti. My thoughts and prayers are with Kabiyesi and the entire community at this difficult time,” he said.
Demonstrating a commitment to swift intervention, the lawmaker pledged to take proactive steps in mobilising support for the victims.
He assured that he would personally liaise with relevant relief agencies to ensure timely assistance reaches those affected and that efforts are made toward the reconstruction of the damaged sections of the palace.
Jamiu further emphasized the need for collective support, urging stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to join hands in bringing relief to the victims and restoring normalcy to the community.
While offering his condolences, he prayed for strength and resilience for the people of Are Ekiti, expressing optimism that the community would overcome the setback and emerge stronger.
The rainstorm, which struck last Sunday, reportedly left a trail of destruction in Are Ekiti, affecting homes and critical structures, including the revered palace of the Alare.
