In alignment with the Ekiti State Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has approved an initiative aimed at addressing the presence of destitute, beggars, and those identified as miscreants within Ado Ekiti, the state capital, and its environs.
The Special Adviser, Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Adetoun Agboola made this known in Ado.
Agboola said that the primary objective of this initiative is to facilitate unrestricted movement for the populace, safeguard against potential incidents involving individuals facing mental health challenges, and prevent the misuse of the guise of mental illness by some individuals for nefarious activities.
She stated further that this action will additionally enable the government to extend assistance to genuine destitute and beggars, providing them with necessary psychosocial support and interventions which align with the provisions outlined in the Discrimination Against Persons with Disability Prohibition Law (2020), ensuring their access to democratic benefits.
The Special Adviser said that the State Officials and Security personnel will soon commence this operation to bolster the security measures in preparation for the yuletide season and the upcoming year.
Agboola sought the cooperation of all residents of Ekiti State earnestly in achieving this objective for the betterment of the State.
