The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police Mr Dare Ogundare has announced the arrest of various criminal suspects and other notorious Cult groups in the state within last one week.
According to the police boss, OPEYEMI, a serial burglar, was arrested by the Command operatives in his criminal hideout in Aramoko-Ekiti.
The Police Commissioner disclosed that upon acting on a tip-off, the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended individuals associated with the Eiye confraternity in a hideout where they were engaging in illicit activities.
Two suspects, PELUMI OBAYEMI and OLANIPEKUN EMMANUEL, were arrested, while others fled the scene. Items including a battle axe, criminal charms, and suspected Indian hemp were found in their possession.
Additionally, ten members of the “Buccaneer Confraternity” were arrested near Prosperous Hotel in Ado-Ekiti. They were found in possession of various items associated with their secret cult, including berets, caps, shirts, and symbols. Weapons, a suspected charm, and cowries were also seized.
“Upon the receipt of the information, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad(RRS) were deployed to the hotel and ten suspects were arrested. Namely: Alaba Teniola, Ajayi Taiwo, Isaac Olasunkanmi, Adelowo Julius, Ajibola Ridwan, Temirope Emmanuel, Lawal Shefiu, David Temitope, Ayobami Idris, Ebenezer Olagunju, Balogun Moyosore and Omolara Adebayo “f”.
“Items recovered from them are: two yellow berets with buccaneer symbol, three yellow hart caps with buccaneer symbol, two yellow Polo shirts with buccaneer symbol, one yellow tie with buccaneer symbol, one yellow head gear with buccaneer symbol, one key holder with buccaneer symbol, one yellow handkerchief with buccaneer symbol, one knife and a substance suspected to be charm with five cowries.”
Further arrests were made in Emure-Ekiti, where suspects were caught chanting secret cult slogans and smoking suspected Indian hemp. Investigation revealed their involvement in an assault on a victim who was stabbed on the forehead.
On a different occasion, two individuals were arrested along Ilawe Road, Ado Ekiti, in possession of a significant quantity of suspected Indian hemp and a white substance believed to be cocaine. They confessed to being drug dealers.
The Commissioner of Police expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and provision of timely information that led to these successful operations. All arrested suspects will face appropriate legal action.
