Police Arrest Ekiti Oba-Elect Over Alleged Forgery
The Nigeria Police, Zone 17, Akure Zonal Command has confirmed the arrest of an Ekiti Oba-elect, Prince Babalola Adebomi, over alleged certificate forgery.
The suspect, until his arrest was the Oba-elect of Ararọmi-Ekiti, in Ijero local government area of Ekiti State.
He was reported to have claimed to be a graduate of University of Ibadan and has been using the certificate to work in various establishments, including Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).
The Hope Metro learnt that the embattled Prince was picked up in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, by operatives of the Zone 17 of the Nigeria Police and whisked away to Akure, for interrogation.
Shortly before he was quizzed by the police, residents of the community had staged a peaceful protest to the Ekiti State House of Assembly and the Ekiti State Chieftaincy Commission, urging the government to stop Adebomi’s installation over alleged certificate forgery.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the zone, Mr. Adeoye Hakeem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the suspect was petitioned by the indigenes of the community who alleged him of forging certificate and using same to work at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) and other establishments in the state.
He explained that the suspect who was interrogated and questioned on some issues, has been granted bail, while investigation is currently ongoing on the matter.
Hakeem said that the suspect would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are completed.
