A devastating incident occurred in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Thursday, when a police officer allegedly accidentally discharged his rifle, killing a woman. According to reports, the tragic event took place opposite an Okela police post, where the woman had gone to visit her detained husband.
Reportedly, the officer’s accidental gunfire hit the woman, who was standing in front of a salon opposite the station. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, AIG Akinwale Adeniran, confirmed the incident and stated that the officer involved has been disarmed and detained for interrogation, in accordance with the police act.
