..describes him as an Icon of Integrity and Honour
By Gbenga Sodeinde in Ado Ekiti
Today, we gather in celebration of a remarkable milestone – the 70th birthday of a true statesman, a former Governor of our State, Ekiti and Asiwaju of Ifaki-Ekiti whose life has been a shining example of honesty, integrity, transparency and simplicity. As we reflect on your life trajectory, we are reminded of the profound impact you have had on all you have served and those who have had the privilege to know you.
Your tenure as the Governor was not merely a chapter of leadership; it was a testament to what is possible when a purposeful and clear- headed person leads with conviction and a deep-rooted sense of dedication and service. Through every challenge and hurdle of governance, you remained steadfast in your commitment to good and exceptional governance, transparency, accountability and fairness, never allowing the temptations of power to sway your principles. Your honesty became a beacon, illuminating the path for others to follow.
Your Excellency Sir, what truly sets you apart, however, is the simplicity with which you have lived your life. In an age where many seek opulence and exhibit undue thirst for materialism and self- aggrandizement, you have shown us that true wealth lies in humility, service, and sincere connection with the people. You have always been approachable, grounded, and deeply invested in the well-being of others and I can attest to your rare ingenuity and unrivalled love for Ekiti during our several engagements while you were the Governor and I was the President of UNAD Students’ Union. Your simple lifestyle reflects your deep understanding that leadership is not about what you possess but about how you serve and the enduring legacies you laid.
On this momentous occasion, we honour not just a leader and Statesman you were, but the person you are a person who has not only earned the respect, admiration, and love of all those whose lives you have touched but also of people who are attracted to your impeccable lifestyle. Your integrity continues to inspire future generations to strive for a world where honesty and simplicity reign.
Happy 70th Birthday, Chief Segun Oni! May this year bring you the same joy, peace, and fulfilment that you have given to so many throughout your remarkable life.
Cheers to a more fulfilling future!
