Peter Obi and his Mariamman,s style
In an agrarian Southern India of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were throng of worshippers , feasting , revelling and mesmerizing before their deities. Southern India was renowned for idols worship..Each villager had it non- transferable,’ our- very- own god’ who understood the burden, travails and concerns of the folks and provided them with specific relief.
This is how the worship of Mariamman evolved. According to the scholars, the cult of Mariamman predates the mediaval era , about 4000 years when Hinduism was not yet the expansive religion.
Mariamman, the goddess of weather was held in high premium among her worshippers as the harbinger of rain, fortune and prosperity . Mariamman ,s temple was enthralling for its towering gopuram gateway, exquisitely carved and adorned.
What really constitutes a painful sore in the hearts and souls of the poor dewellers in spite of array of deities and their unwavering devotion to these gods was ‘too little rain or too much of it’ .
Poor rain spelt doom to human being and livestocks while too much rain devastated their harvest. Therefore the villagers were in dire need of rain regulator. Mariamman, the mother goddess of rain and weather was in shape, as fit as fiddle to reset the radal. Thus, mariamman became the most venerate and endearing deity in India.
There is no doubt, the former governor of Anambra State, and the LP Presidential Candidate in 2023, Peter Obi has assumed the style and nomenclature of ‘Mariamman’ in the Nigeria political enclave.
Since Obi threw his hat on the ring on December 31 2025, to join the coalition in African Democratic Congress , ADC, the political atmosphere and momentum is high and frency.
The ruling party and its faithful members are really sneezing. As bees swarming around the honey comb, the party is swelling like ballon , the fortune of ADC has dramatically electrifying.
Political heavy weight and gladiators across the length and breath of the country have embraced the party. Peter Obi is a phenomenon, symbol and organic figure in Nigeria demographic and political texture.
Peter Obi looms large as a colossus ; a remincence of Nigerian political heros, like ‘Awoism’ from South West region, ‘Balewa’ from Northern region and ‘ Zik’ a Southern region.
These leaders played a crucial roles in their respective domains. While Obafemi Awolowo advocated and priorized free education and regional developments, Tafawa Balewa contributed to a massive agricultural practices.
Nnamadi Azikwe was a vanguard for commercial and industrial revolution. The exchange rate was at par. Nigerian currency rubbed shoulder with dollar. Nigeria was a real giant of African with high Gross Domestic Product GDP as a result of large exportation.
Today, politics and politicking has become nauseating and disgusting; while average Nigerians become unnecessarily political commentators and analysts. Yoruba has this solemn maxim, ‘ bi a ba bu , eru, Inu eru a baje’ meaning, if we disdain or molest a slave , his heart bleak and grieved .
As citizens of Nigeria, are we grieved when a Prime Minister of UK described Nigeria as ‘fantastically corrupt nation’ because of our unbridled proclivity and propensity for corruption?
Does our hearts grieved
when a boisterous president of America Donald Trump, employed a derogatory sarcasm that Nigeria was a disgraced nation?
Does our hearts grieved and bleak when Nigeria was tagged and designated as a country of particular concerned , APC? Does anything really amiss when many Nigerians youths are molested and rotten in sub African prisons such as South Africa Lybia, Ghana , Burkina Faso and other foreign countries because we have lost our voices, we have lost our values, and validity of identity?
In the midst of this disturbing flaws and woes, many of us are wrapped up in conditional theory. We don’t have option! We don’t have option for bad and distress economy?
We don’t have option for corrupt tendency in governance and public engagement? We don’t have any options for insecurity in Nigeria as our country has become abbatoir for reckless killings?
We don’t have option as our country become anathema and laughing-stock in the comity of nation?
Evidently, the creation of new Nigeria is not a brainier, neither a rocket science. Like Mariamman worshippers, we must be specific and rational in our thinking and resolution for a better Nigeria.
We must acknowledge that we need a leader with chest war to confront corruption, nepotism, ineptitude and profligacy. We must come to a point that the value of any nation hinges on productivity and accountability.
That’s more reason like Hindu worshippers in Southern India, the Obidients movement and many concerned Nigerians, home and abroad have become vehement and vociferous in their demand , it,s either ‘Obi or nothing ‘ in ADC,s coalition.
The message is clear and unambiguous. The new party, African Democratic Congress remains a formidable party with a promising tentacle and goodwill to rescue the country from sinking ship.
The leadership of ADC must understand that in any football contest, the technical crew always present the best striker to avoid defeat.
A wise coach should insist on fitness, efficiency and discipline. In order to gain the confidence and trust of Nigerians, the convention and party primary must devoid of usual money bags or highest bidder.
It is crystal clear , the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi possesses the attributes to reset the political guagmire. Peter Obi is a man of the people. He identifies with the youths and common folks, he shares our paints.
Peter Obi is a new and beautiful bride in Nigeria political class. Untainted and undefiled personality with incredible passion for moral rectitude in political space and personal life.
Obi is a unifier with a sterling composure and pedigree A radical game changer, and exemplary figure among the Nigerian youths. With Mariammnan ,s style, Peter Obi infuses hope and faith in Nigerian masses.
A number of political traducers have bent to cast aspersions or smear the reputation of Peter Obi but like a lilly of the valley, the former LP Presidential Candidate remained unspotted, and far from the maddening crowd.
As free and happy as bird, Obi is one among the few without any Court litigations of embezzlement, money laundry, contract kick – back or bribery allegations for judicial intervention. In his managerial shrewedness, prudence and financial discipline, Obi provided a state -of- the- art educational facilities in Anambra State.
While many governors squandered and empty the State,s treasury while leaving offices, Peter Obi left about 75 billions in the State account. This is an undeniable testimony and stark reality that the ‘beautiful one is about to be born in Nigeria political space and social engagement’
As general election is approaching, and politics and politicking is gathering momentum, Nigerians should be more implicit and descive like the worshippers in the Hindu temple to ventilate their minds and acknowledging the excruciating sore in their soul and body. And seek for the best among the gods with magical radar.
