The government of Ekiti State under the able leadership of His Excellency, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in collaboration with National Assembly members from Ekiti Central Senatorial District which include Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele and Hon. Fatoba Olusola Steve(MHR) are set to revive the proposed abandoned recreation center at Ekute in Ado-Ekiti adjacent the state water corporation.
The proposed multi-million naira project was started in 2012 by former senators representing the three senatorial districts in Ekiti state which include Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi for North Senatorial District, Senator Anthony Adeniyi Afuye representing Ekiti South and Senator Babafemi Ojudu representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District as part of their constituency projects.
Speaking with newsmen during the flagging off for the continuation of work on the abandoned project, Hon. Fatoba said in line with the policy of the All Progressives Congress(APC) and that of President Muhammadu Buhari administration to complete all abandoned projects, it was agreed that the project should be embarked upon in order to add more value to the economic activities of the state.
The lawmaker furthered that he decided to put some fund into the project out of his constituency allowance to ensure that the project can continue and also shut the door against criminals making use of the place.
He said, “In line with our party policy, when President Muhammadu Buhari came into office, he made sure that every abandoned project was completed. The same policy the state government adopted. It is on this that we are embarking on this abandoned project.
“I decided to put some fund into this project out of my constituency allowance to ensure that this project can continue and also stop criminal activities here”
Fatoba assured that if he and his senior colleague, Senator Bamidele were given the second term ticket, the project would be completed before the end of their tenure in office. He added that the state Governor has shown his readiness to join hand together with them to ensure that the recreation center is revived.
“I believe that if we have the second term ticket, definitely before the end of our tenure this project is going to be completed.
“I am not alone in this project, my senior colleague, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele will make his own input likewise the state government. It is a form of collaboration between the state government and National Assembly members from Ekiti Central Senatorial District”
Earlier, the former Senior Legislative Assistant(SLA) to former Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Barrister Toyin Oluwasola who was present at the flagging off for the continuation of the project expressed his delight over the latest development describing it as a right step taking in the right direction.
He commended the state government and National Assembly members for taking step to revive the abandoned project.
“I am delighted over this latest development which is in the best interest of the people of Ekiti state. We must commend our lawmakers and the state government for taking this good step to continue with this gigantic project.
“Our prayers is that the good Lord will give them the strength and the resources to complete this project”
Similarly, the Chairman of Ore-Ofe Community, zone 13 Ekute quarters, Ado-Ekiti, Mr Oluwakayode Okimi gave kudos to the state government and National Assembly members for the continuation of the project which according to him would add to the development of the community and economic prosperity of the people of Ekiti state.
