Ogun State Workers Declare Indefinite Strike

The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other organised labour congresses in Ogun state have declared an indefinite strike starting from 12 midnight, today the 28th of June, 2022 over the issue of contributory pensions and twenty-one deductions from their salaries.

The Chairman, NLC Ogun State, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole gave the directive earlier today at the Arcade ground,Oke Mosan.

Comrade Bankole disclosed that the state Government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun has been given more than enough time to address the grievances of the workforce in the state but did not utilise the opportunity,hence the decision of the Congress.

Speaking on the issue that led to the decision to embark on the indefinite strike, Comrade Bankole revealed that the leadership of the Labour union were coming from a meeting in Ibadan where they had been accused of being lethargic and had also been induced by some form of payment by the state Government but the Union had to exhaust all available channels of communication before taking any decision while also needing to carry ever member along in order to be able to speak with one voice.

He also declared that any worker who reports for duty would be seen as a traitor and if the strike would be called off,it would be done at the same ground where the strike was announced.

Present at the event were leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Akeem Lasisi and the leader of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC),Comrade Isa Olude.
