Mysteries: Why You Can’t Eat Fishes In River Uren In Ikenne, Ogun State, Nigeria
For centuries, it was forbidden to catch or kill any of the fishes in the Uren River at Ikenne, Ogun state.
River Uren was regarded as sacred in the days of our forefathers.
River Uren is very clear so clear that you could see the river’s bed as well as it’s contents.
Furthermore, it was claimed by the traditional worshippers that the fishes if caught could never be successfully cooked, and that in any case evil was sure to befall anyone who caught or killed any of them.
As a result of centuries of absolute safety, the fishes in the River Uren had waxed big, numerous, sluggish.
If you entered the river, they rushed at you and nibbled at your clothes or legs. They lived their lives unmolested and unafraid.
