Tuesday, 24 October 2023:
The day dawned with great anticipation as the House gathered for a momentous sitting. We engaged in passionate debates and deliberations on the second reading of the Appropriation bill, stirring the spirit of democracy within our hallowed chambers.
The bill was ultimately committed to the Finance and Appropriation Committee, while our dedicated committees assumed their roles as subcommittees, ready to ensure fiscal prudence and accountability.
Furthermore, the day witnessed the final sitting of local government stewardship sessions, where the helmsmen of our local governments presented their accounts of service.
In the pursuit of transparency and effective governance, we are embarking on executive sessions and site visits to projects claimed by the various local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
In addition to these important proceedings, the House deliberated on the report presented by the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Committee, particularly focusing on the case of the Ikere Local Government Chairman. Justice and equity were upheld as we ensured that the affairs of our local governments are administered with utmost responsibility and fairness.
Moreover, a motion was brought before the House, emphasizing the critical need to raise awareness about the Funmi Adunni Olayinka Diagnostic Centre and the importance of promoting proactive measures against prostate cancer.
We emphasized the significance of regular medical check-ups for men, encouraging them to prioritize their health and well-being. Additionally, during the sitting, a matter of utmost urgency and public importance was deliberated upon.
The House addressed the pressing need for enhanced awareness and promotion of the emergency code 112 in Ekiti State. Recognizing the critical role of swift and efficient emergency response systems, we emphasized the importance of educating and informing the public about the availability and proper utilization of this vital lifeline. Through increased awareness, we aim to empower our citizens to access timely assistance in times of emergencies, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Having diligently addressed all matters before us for the day, the House declared its annual recess. This period of respite allows us to recharge our spirits, reflect on our accomplishments, and envision the next steps on our path to progress.
The House eagerly anticipates reconvening on the 1st day of December, 2023, renewed and invigorated, ready to resume our legislative duties and advance the welfare and prosperity of the people of Ekiti State.
