Mr Speaker’s Diary: A New Year of Purposeful Leadership
As we step into a new period beyond the first six months of my tenure as the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, it is my pleasure to continue sharing the highlights of my activities with the good people of Ekiti.
The “Mr Speaker’s Diary” remains a testament to our commitment to transparency and accountability in public service, providing you with a firsthand account of my engagements and initiatives.
Embarking on the new year, 2024, on Tuesday, January 2nd: The week began with a momentous occasion as I participated in the state interdenominational thanksgiving, a deeply meaningful gathering that brought together people of diverse faiths to offer gratitude and seek divine guidance for the year ahead.
The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the importance of unity and shared purpose in our collective journey.
Wednesday, January 3rd: I led a heartfelt thanksgiving session within the Ekiti State House of Assembly, where I had the privilege to address the entire assembly and its dedicated workforce.
I emphasized the vital importance of continuous dedication and unwavering service delivery, while also commending the members and staff for their exemplary commitment to the responsibilities entrusted to them.
Thursday, January 4th: The day was filled with diverse engagements, starting with attending the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Local Government/LCDA Chairmen and Vice Chairmen.
This event marked a significant moment in our state’s governance, as we welcomed and celebrated the leaders who will play pivotal roles in the administration of our local communities. Later in the day, I had the pleasure of attending the wedding reception of the Agbedes, former Head of Service, and his wife, who is also one of our deputy clerks. It was a joyous occasion that brought together friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to celebrate love and companionship.
Friday, January 5th: The day was dedicated to a crucial state assignment meeting, where I actively participated in discussions and deliberations aimed at addressing pertinent issues and charting a course for progress and development within our state.
Saturday, January 6th: I had the honor of dedicating the day to celebrating my wife’s birthday, surrounded by our immediate family members. It was a moment of joy, reflection, and appreciation for the love and support that enriches our lives.
Sunday, January 7th: I joined the congregants at my local church, RCCG Wonderful Mega, for the annual thanksgiving service.
The spiritual gathering served as a source of inspiration and encouragement, reminding us of the significance of worship, service, and staying connected with God in our daily lives.
Legislative Engagements in Abuja: Immediately after the thanksgiving service, I traveled to Abuja for legislative engagements, meetings, and to seek support from partners for the advancement of our legislative assignments. The trip was aimed at fostering collaborations and securing backing for the initiatives that will benefit the people of Ekiti State.
Wednesday, January 10th: Upon returning from Abuja, I engaged in various administrative works at the office, meeting with departmental heads to discuss pertinent matters. Later in the day, I had the privilege of decorating two newly promoted NSCDC officers who are attached to the House of Assembly, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to their duties.
Thursday, January 11th: Embarking on a two-day inspection of schools within the eleven communities that constitute my constituency was a priority.
The visit included the distribution of exercise books and an on-the-spot assessment of the conditions of students and schools, reaffirming my commitment to education and the well-being of our young learners.
Following the two-day inspection of schools within the eleven communities in my constituency, I took the opportunity to meet with students facing challenges, particularly those without school uniforms or sandals.
In response, I have volunteered to provide for these students, numbering approximately 180, ensuring that they have the essential resources to fully engage in their education. Additionally, I engaged with various stakeholders in my constituency, reaffirming my dedication to addressing the needs of our communities.
Returning to the capital city of Ado Ekiti on Saturday 13, I joined Mr. Governor at the prayer session organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at Lady Jibowu Hall, Government House, Ado Ekiti. The session was a powerful testament to the importance of faith and unity in our collective journey.
Sunday, January 14th, was dedicated to service at my local church, where I joined fellow congregants for a day of worship and spiritual reflection. Additionally, I attended the business meeting of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Ekiti Province 1, further reinforcing the significance of faith and community within our lives.
Monday, January 15th, marked the solemn occasion of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, where I had the honor of participating and laying a wreath in remembrance of the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
On Tuesday, January 16th, I engaged in a meeting on state assignments before proceeding to the first Principal Officers meeting and the first parliamentary sitting of the House in 2024.
These sessions were dedicated to strategic planning and laying the groundwork for the year ahead, ensuring that our legislative agenda is aligned with the needs of the people we serve.
Wednesday, January 17th, began with a brief meeting at the office before attending the inauguration of the Olowe of Ise Foundation at the Exco Chamber by Mr. Governor.
The foundation aims to build a museum to house the works of Olowe of Ise, whose artistic legacy has garnered global recognition. This initiative holds the promise of preserving and celebrating our cultural heritage for generations to come.
Thursday, January 18th, was a day of continued engagement as I joined Mr. Governor at the opening ceremony of the retreat organized for the newly inaugurated officials of the Local Government/LCDA, demonstrating our collective commitment to capacity building and effective governance at the grassroots level. Later in the day, I met with the DAWN Commission team, led by Dr. Seye Ojeleye, in furtherance of our shared goals for regional development and collaboration.
As I reflect on these diverse activities, I am reminded of the profound impact that dedicated service, remembrance, strategic planning, and community engagement can have on the well-being of our state and its people. I remain steadfast in my commitment to fostering progress, unity, and prosperity for all residents of Ekiti State.
The “Mr Speaker’s Diary” will continue to serve as a testament to our collective journey, and I look forward to sharing further updates and insights as we progress in this journey together.
Thank you!
