Durodola Ogundele, 65, was given a life sentence by an Ado-Ekiti High Court in Ekiti for raping his 85-year-old stepmother.
The defendant came before Justice Monisola Abodunde and was accused of rape on one count.
The investigating police officer and a medical doctor were among the five witnesses the prosecutor, Folasade Alli, called to support his case. She also provided evidence such as the victim’s statements, the defendants’ statements, and a medical report from Federal Teaching Hospital.
No witnesses were called; the defendant spoke solely in his own defense through M.O. Folorunso, his attorney.
Justice Monisola Abodunde concluded that the defendant was the one who actually committed the crime.
“Therefore, I haven’t any doubt that the prosecution has efficiently confirmed via circumstantial evidence—that’s cogent, convincing, and maximum importantly—that the defendant purposefully and consciously had canal understanding of the woman after applying a black balm to her body and intimate area.”
The defendant was convicted and given a life sentence after being found guilty of rape.
