Nigerians have been told not to allow anything like political affiliation to halt their communal and Christian relationship no matter what happens.
The caution was given by Mrs. A. B. Ajayi in her Presidential address delivered at the 37th Mothers’ Union Conference of the Diocese of Ekiti Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) hosted by Ado North Archdeacony, last weekend.
The theme of the conference is : “Blessed is the man who works not in the counsel of the ungodly nor stands in the path of sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful. Psalm 1:1”
The Union President who is also the wife of the bishop of Ekiti Diocese, noted that in the aftermath of the elections, many who used to be united before are now in divided relationship because of the inability to place things in perspective.
Said she: “Nations of the world are faced with several challenges and so is Nigeria. We must come to agree that it is the grace of God that is at work that keeps the nation till date together. I cannot agree less with the Psalmist that if the Lord has not been for us, what would Israel say?
“We cannot but call our attention to the fact that our nation is faced with peculiar challenges and to mention are our leadership malady, erratic power supply in the nation, currency redesign and its attendant consequences, societal unrest, religious tension, fuel scarcity/hike and injustice.”
Mrs. Ajayi said that in the face of our current challenges in Nigeria, God is still with us; pointing out that we have a mandate as God’s children, which is to align with God in faith to bring to fulfillment what He said about us, not minding our present challenges.
“We must pray for our leaders and the nation as a whole knowing fully well that when there is godly governance and peaceful nation, the citizens enjoy and rejoice”, she said.
She called the attention of our leaders at governmental level in the Local, State and Federal levels to rise up to their responsibility in ensuring that justice prevails over tribal, religious and ethnic sentiment.
