Sensitization on putting an end to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) has gained more spread in Ekiti State as a Non Governmental Governmental Organization, MAI Initiative for Human Development takes its campaign rounds Schools in the State.
The group have been doing some sensitization on FGM at different schools in the state before now primarily on FGM and equally to teach girls about their menstrual hygiene.
This was done in order to intensify awareness at the grassroots and ensure FGM comes to an end, and as MAI initiative continued her school sensitization series to the grassroots.
The team lead by Obisesan Caleb Kenny, today 18th June 2021, engaged students of Iropora High School Iropora Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun on an FGM sensitization session.
The students were enlightened on the harmful effects of Fgm both in short and long term. The students ewually pledged to enlighten their parents and friends on the need to stop FGM.
Also, there was another session on reproductive health and Menstrual Hygiene. Participants were allowed to share their first menstrual experience.
They were later taught how to make reusable sanitary pads (which they later produced themselves).
The Executive Director of MAI initiative for human development in charge of the project, Ayotomiwa Ayodele in an interview with the press said, “We are on a mission to humanity, we will not relent. Giving back to society in our little way is a must”.
She further that the project continues as the team will be visiting other schools in Ekiti state.
