A Federal Commissioner at the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Barrister Omowunmi Ogunlola, has dismissed speculations about contesting for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections, saying her focus remains on serving the interests of Ekiti State in her current national assignment.

Ogunlola made the clarification while addressing stakeholders, supporters, and residents of Ekiti State amid growing discussions about her possible political ambition ahead of the 2027 polls.

The commissioner said she deemed it necessary to personally address the rumours, stressing that her priority is the continued development and welfare of the people of Ekiti.

She expressed gratitude to the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, for his support, guidance and encouragement, noting that their partnership has strengthened the shared vision for the progress of the state.

According to her, she had already briefed the governor on her position regarding the matter and appreciated his understanding and wise counsel.

Ogunlola also thanked her supporters and political associates for their trust and confidence, assuring them that the empowerment programmes and initiatives they have benefited from would continue uninterrupted.

“Let me state clearly that I will not be contesting for the House of Representatives in 2027. However, the future remains open, and I will continue to serve Ekiti State in every capacity I can, always prioritising the collective interest of our people above personal ambition,” she said.

She explained that as a serving federal commissioner representing Ekiti State at RMAFC, she is currently saddled with a crucial national responsibility at a strategic time, particularly as the commission plays a vital role in revenue allocation and fiscal matters affecting all states, including Ekiti.

Ogunlola further noted that constitutional and ethical provisions require public office holders intending to contest elective positions to resign before March 26, stressing that such a decision must be taken with careful consideration of its implications for the state.

“Resignation at this time would have implications for Ekiti State’s interest, and I firmly believe that the state’s interest is bigger than any individual ambition,” she said.

The commissioner emphasized that leadership demands wisdom, proper timing and the courage to place collective interest above personal aspiration.

She added that she had also consulted her political structure and key stakeholders to ensure clarity, alignment and unity of purpose regarding her decision.

Reaffirming her dedication to the state, Ogunlola said she would remain focused on initiatives that empower the people and promote development across Ekiti.

“Ekiti has always been and will always be my priority. Together, with the support of our citizens, leaders and friends, we will continue to build a stronger, more prosperous and united Ekiti State,” she said.

She urged residents to remain focused and united in the shared goal of putting Ekiti first for the benefit of present and future generations.
