Just in! Ex-Ekiti PDP Publicity Secretary, Adeyanju, Dumps Party for APC over ‘Chronic Instability’

The immediate past Publicity Secretary of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Hon. Adewumi Adeyanju, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing chronic instability and lack of clear direction within the opposition party.

Adeyanju announced his defection in a personally signed statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, declaring that the PDP no longer represents a credible platform for national change and sustainable governance.

According to him, his decision followed months of deep reflection and wide consultations with his family, political associates and supporters.

“After extensive consultations and sincere introspection, I, Hon. Raphael ‘Wumi’ Adeyanju, the immediate past Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ekiti State, hereby formally resign my membership of the party and join the ruling All Progressives Congress,” he stated.

Explaining his reasons, Adeyanju described the PDP as a party plagued by internal crisis, factional battles and leadership failures.
“The PDP is suffering from a fundamental crisis of identity and purpose. Its internal conflict-resolution mechanisms have collapsed, giving rise to persistent factional wars, litigations and a culture of betrayal,” he said.

He added that a party unable to manage its internal affairs could not be trusted to govern the country, noting that the PDP has failed to offer Nigerians a coherent alternative vision.
Adeyanju said his decision to join the APC was informed by what he described as the party’s relative stability, discipline and governance focus.

“In contrast, the APC, despite its imperfections, has demonstrated a better capacity to manage internal dissent and remain focused on governance,” he said.
He also cited the advantage of aligning with the party at the national centre, stressing that such alignment would help Ekiti State attract meaningful federal presence and development projects.

Adeyanju further expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the administration’s economic and security reforms as difficult but necessary steps toward national rebirth.

“At this critical time, the APC offers a platform to support and shape the ongoing reforms aimed at economic sustainability, security enhancement and national development,” he added.

Commending governance at the state level, Adeyanju praised Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, for what he described as calm, inclusive and development-driven leadership under the APC.

“The Shared Prosperity Agenda of Governor Oyebanji, which prioritises peace, infrastructure, agriculture and citizens’ welfare, reflects the pragmatic and people-centred politics I believe in,” he said.

He described the APC as a progressive party whose ideology aligns more closely with his personal political philosophy.

Adeyanju assured APC leaders and members of his readiness to contribute meaningfully to the party, particularly in political communication and grassroots mobilisation.

“I am not defecting merely to hold a flag; I am joining to work. I am committed to supporting the party’s programmes, educating the public on government policies and strengthening the bond between the party and the people of Ekiti State,” he stated.

He thanked the PDP for the opportunity it offered him in the past and appealed to his supporters and other Ekiti indigenes to join him in what he described as a new chapter of service to the state and the nation
