Just in! Dele Farotimi Sent Back to Prison

Embattled human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has been sent back to jail.

The development comes after the ruling on Farotimi’s bail application was on Tuesday adjourned till December 20, 2024.

The lawyer and human rights activist had appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Tuesday, for a bail hearing.

Farotimi, who arrived at the court in a police security van at approximately 10:00 am, was accompanied by officials from the correctional centre.

The Lagos-based lawyer and activist, Farotimi is being prosecuted over a defamation charge filed against him by Aare Afe Babalola, SAN.

Recalled that Farotimi, through his legal counsels, submitted a preliminary objection asking the court to strike out the suit.

The objection, dated December 9, 2024, was filed by Farotimi’s legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, along with 19 other lawyers.

The defence team includes three other Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Festus Emiri, Bamidele Ibironke, and Segun Ololade, supported by 16 additional legal practitioners.

It was however observed that embattled legal activist, Farotimi was not handcuffed like the previous time when  prison officials brought to court on Tuesday morning.
