I AM NOT A DIASPORA KING – Says Ogboni King In Brazil

The king of Ogboni Iwashe Fraternity worldwide , Oba Adekunle Aderonmu yesterday held the bull by the horns , the Ogboni king expressed his views on why it is still very important to maintain the royal stool adopted recently by the Ogboni fraternity in Nigeria and Overseas.

Oba Aderounmu said that the Ogboni fraternity is a divine society that represents the judiciary in the ancient Yoruba system of ruling , he advised all sons and daughters of Oodua to give the due to whom it is due.

The king who received Heritagenews’ Adeyinka Olaiya re-affirmed that the fraternity stool is not to dispute rulership with any paramount king in Yoruba land “ Our crown is to elevate our tradition , it is strictly within the Ogboni fraternity” he said.

Oba Aderonmu further explained that bestowing Obaship title upon an individual within a given geographic location or society in Yoruba land is as a result of the person’s meritorious services to the society.

The Oniwashe of Iwashe said he was honoured with the title of king, Oba Ogboni Iwashe after the normal consultation of ifá , he said all traditional rites were realized in Nigeria and according to the determinations of the Ogboni fraternity “ I am not a diaspora king , I was not crowned in Brazil , i did not realize the title rites in Brazil.

Iwashe Ogboni did not start in Brazil , it has extended through the international community in the recent years , it is also to accompany the practice of the Yoruba traditional religion that is fast increasing in the diaspora.

I entered Ipebi in Nigeria, I went through the rites before I was crowned as the king of Ogboni. It is time the society start knowing the differences between Orisha kings and public kings , Orisha King controls within the Orishas while town king controls within the town. The functions of Ogboni fraternity is more than just Orisha.

Ogboni is a peaceful society created by Irunmole Edan to maintain peace and tranquillity in the society, Ogboni king does not wear his crown to any palace king , he must respect the palace kings, our crown is within us.

If I live in Brazil, it does not make me a diáspora king, I am the king of Ogboni Iwashe in Nigeria, not Brazil . I was given the title of Otunba years back in Ijebu before I became Ogboni king.

So if you are not contended with my Obaship you can call me Otunba, the important thing is doing the right thing to elevate our culture, tradition and religion.

A promoter of Yoruba cuture and tradition in Brazil, Oba Aderonmu has written books on Ifa and Ogboni, he recently launched a book titled “The Ogboni society and its connection with Ifa tradition “ which was officially presented to the Brazilian literature academy last Friday 28th of August.2021.

He has written books for academic studies in Brazil and around the world .
