Heritagenewsng reports that plantains are very popular around the world. They are the less sweet equivalent of bananas. Plantains must be cooked before eaten. They contain certain essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, potassium and fiber.

This is why eating unripe plantain is very beneficial to a person’s health and can do certain things in your body. According to Healthline, here are some of them.

1) It promotes bowel regularity: Plantain contains fiber that is very good for the gut. Fiber helps to soften your stool and also prevents constipation. It also increases fullness and reduces your risk of developing diverticular disease. Diverticular disease occurs due to small pouches in the large intestine.

2) It helps in weight management: Plantain contains fiber and complex carbs that are slow to digest. This helps to keep your stomach fuller and more satisfied for long after a meal, which can reduce your tendency to eat unhealthy foods.

3) It protects your cell from damage: Plantains contains vitamin C which is an antioxidant that does not only protect your cells from damage, but can also boost your immune system and prevent heart diseases and some types of cancer.

4) It is good for your heart: Plantain is very rich in potassium. Potassium is very good for the heart as it maintains cells that can control blood pressure. It also reduces bad cholesterol that can lead to heart diseases.
